Melanie Porter is a design studio located in London that has been focusing on using traditional crafts to create handmade furniture and furnishings.

The general idea behind Melanie Porter Design is to create truly individual, handcrafted and bespoke items. Working with clients to create bespoke colour and pattern designs Melanie is dedicated to make every customer feel that they have a beautifully crafted item which fits perfectly in their home.

Melanie received training at the prestigious Central Saint Martin’s College, Melanie’s ability to create exquisite, textured fabrics which are individually knitted and felted for every project has drawn attention from clients and press all over the world.

The Vintage Swivel Armchair has a wood base and Melanie Porter signature with the patchwork knitted treatment.

Each panel of knit is individually knitted and felted to create a perfect ‘sweater’ cover for each piece. The result is highly textured yet hard-wearing and turns an old chair into an inventive and modern piece of furniture that would make a great statement in any room.

Whilst we can ‘recreate’ from our archive the handmade nature results in each piece turning out completely unique.

It can take up to 5 weeks to knit our covers, resulting in a beautifully crafted and individual piece of furniture to treasure.

Covered in a handknitted highly textured upholstery design, with contrast colour deep-set crocheted buttons in your own choice of colours. We offer to choose a selection of colours or work with you to create your own bespoke order. We recommend using up to 8 colours for chair.

Melanie Porter undertakes the entire process herself and everything, from the restoration and upholstering to the individual, crocheted buttons, is done by hand. The result of this incredibly labour-intensive process is a stunning and unique work of art, destined to be a future family heirloom.
